There were a lot of rumors and leaks about Google Pixel 4a in the past couple of weeks. After the successive launch of Google Pixel 3a earlier in May 2019, people have been wondering if the new generation product launched by the company will be worth spending upon.
The new device was supposed to launch in May 2020 following the trend but it got canceled concerning the safety amid the growing fear of the outbreak of COVID-19 everywhere.
The latest information that was leaked about the upcoming device was its design. The image that was uploaded on TechDroider is the retail packaged unit of the device that helped us figure out how the device is going to look like.
The back design of Pixel 4a looks similar compared to the Pixel 4 with the popped up square camera with a single lens and a flashlight. The power button color is white on the right side of the device’s display. The fingerprint sensor is not mounted on the back the same as the other Pixel 4 variants
According to the leaks by Onleaks and posted by 91Mobile we have an assumption that the device will come up with a punch-hole front camera on the upper left corner of the screen as the renders on the page were published.
Although these leaks are not yet confirmed as the device is yet to launch later in May, we can still guess that the design can be similar to the Pixel 4 variant.
The device will follow up the OLED FHD+ display and a 60 Hz refresh rate of its predecessor Pixel 3a according to the latest report by 9to5google. It follows with a better 2340 x 1080 resolution than the older version. The display size is expected to be around 5.8 inches. Also, reports have it that the device has a better grip and more comfortable than Pixel 4.
As mentioned we have the device that will come up with a hole punch front camera which is new in the Pixel series. Sadly there is no news of any other sensors like soli sensors or face unlock so that may be out the series for now. The cost wouldn’t have affected if the face unlock software of Pixel 4 was to be transferred in the upcoming device.
The display has been minimal keeping the budget in mind of the company as well as the consumers buying the product.
Coming to the power of the device, it packs a mid-range Snapdragon 730, the SoC of multiple devices this year like the Redmi K20, Realme X2, and Samsung A71. The Pixel 4a models come with a 3080 mAh battery life and 6gb RAM. While the earlier leaks suggested 64gb of memory, we can expect a variant with 128gb capacity.
The Chipset is a good upgrade from the previous Pixel 3a and will give better results but hopefully, the device will still be affordable to everyone in the market.
The system has 8 cores out of which 6 will operate on a lower frequency of 1.8 GHz while the remaining two cores will work at 2.2 GHz. The GPU will be Adreno 618 and following with the Pixel 3a, the device will have its own Titan M security chip. However, the Pixel Neural core will not be found inside according to the reports of 9to5google.
The device will have 18w fast charging through USB but again Google has not included Qi wireless charging for mid range devices.
Pixel devices are popular for their quality cameras Google provides for the users. As compared with its earlier versions Pixel 4a has a single camera but given the history of Pixel 3a, single-camera is good enough to stay in the market for these devices.
The rear camera of Pixel 4a will pack 12.2-megapixel with the usual autofocus and OIS/EIS. The front camera will be 8-megapixel, identical to the camera of Pixel 3a
The video recording capability will be the same as of Pixel 4 and we get 1080p recording at 30FPS, 60FPS, and 120FPS, while 720p recording at 240FPS, and we also get 4K recording at 30FPS for the rear camera and 1080p recording at 30FPS for the front-facing camera.
Availability and Price
According to leaks and sources of 9to5google, Pixel 4a will launch in two variants, black and barely blue. The white variant is not yet confirmed anywhere.
Pixel 4a is expected to launch with a price tag of around $399 but since we’re looking at different memory versions of 64gb and 128gb, the higher one will likely have a higher cost. The device will support all US carriers and since it’s a budget-oriented device, the availability is expected in countries like Europe and India.
We still have no information about the launch of the product. It was supposed to happen during May this year but has been delayed due to COVID-19. Google will probably stream the launch of its services as the outbreak of this virus is growing everyday.
